Coming this September I will be offering a photography workshop called “Digital Photography Simplified.” This seven-hour seminar will teach you how to creatively use your DSLR through classroom instruction and hands-on exercises. Designed for the beginning photographer, the course will teach the basic concepts of digital photography. Emphasis will be on getting away from programmed and automatic modes and learning how to control your camera in shutter priority, aperture priority, and manual modes. If you have ever struggled with the endless screens, dials, and buttons on modern cameras and wanted it simplified into the essentials, then this course is for you. The course fee is $250. Please contact me via email: or telephone (907) 952-2679 for details.

  1. Good morning,
I’ve just purchased a groupon for your workshop and I’d like to sign up for the Sept.30 class please. I have a friend who will be signing up as well. Could you please let me know where I can make it official.
    Thank you,
    Trudy McLennan

  2. I am moving to Anchorage the end of August and would love to do a workshop. I am more a intermediate photographer. Do you have any intermediate workshops that are available. Thought it would be a good way to learn places to photograph and maybe get to know some people.

    • Janice – I am planning an intermediate workshop in October but at this point I think it’s going to be geared towards Lightroom since more people are requesting that. Here are some of the topics covered in the beginning workshop:

      white balance
      ISO and the exposure triangle
      auto focus
      shutter priority
      aperture priority
      depth of field
      seeing like a camera

You may still want to take this course. Also, I recommend you join the Alaska Society of Outdoor and Nature Photographers ( We meet monthly October – May. Membership is $25 for an individual.
